Green roof research

How a green roof is constructed

This source goes into a broad detail on the necessary components of a green roof.

Storm water mitigation techniques

Introduction to storm water management.

Case studies

These two case studies are the ones I presented in class. One is design for many people to occupy and the other is a smaller residential green roof.

  1. Eddie,

I like the case study. It points out a few critical items that you will need to research this semester.

One is the light availability that FxFowle prepared. Some areas of the site will receive significant light throughout the day (although not complete daylight - there will be two periods of shade each day) and some will be much shadier. Not necessarily a problem - just need to select plants appropriately.

The other will be the work needed to support various levels of plantings (low plantings and some birch trees).

I do want to emphasize that this project will need to address space, so will need to be more complex than a sedum roof.

The document describing components of stormwater mitigation is an excellent resource. Part of your task will be to select the components that interest you, identify them, and diagram them together.

You might also look at Parc Nouvelle in Natick. I don't know if you can get access, but you can find images at Ground and Martha Schwartz.
